Last night a prominent crowd gathered for the launch of the Executive Public Sector-Industry Program; a collaboration between the Queensland Futures Institute and the University of Queensland.
There is no doubt that Queensland's future economic and social growth depends on effective collaboration between the public and private and not-for profit sectors – whether that be in response to large scale infrastructure builds, transport upgrades, renewable energy builds, community programs to support health and wellbeing or business as usual across our key sectors that support jobs and communities. Effective collaboration also contributes to effective policy making that is inclusive, supportive and mutually beneficial.
The Queensland Futures Institute (QFI) has long been a cornerstone for thought leadership in the state, consistently championing the economic and societal growth of Queensland. With the launch of the Executive Public Sector-Industry Program, QFI is taking a significant step forward by directly engaging in activities that not only discuss but actively promote economic acceleration.
This move is a result of a strategic review, where two key insights emerged from discussions with members and stakeholders. First, there is robust support for QFI to continue its deep dive into thought leadership. Second, there is a clear mandate for QFI to evolve beyond discussion and take an active role in driving growth. The Executive Public Sector-Industry Program is a direct response to this mandate.
This program, developed in partnership with the University of Queensland (UQ), marks QFI’s first foray into the realm of learning initiatives. By collaborating with UQ, the program aims to bridge the understanding between the public and private sectors—two pillars crucial to Queensland’s future prosperity. The focus here is on enhancing the public sector's comprehension of industry dynamics while also enlightening the private sector about the workings of the public sector. This reciprocal understanding is expected to yield substantial benefits for the entire state.
Steve Greenwood, in his speech at the launch, emphasised that QFI's strength has always been its role as a collaborative platform. This program is a testament to that ethos, representing the kind of partnership-driven initiative that can significantly impact the state’s future.
The enthusiasm and support from UQ have been pivotal in bringing this program to life. The collaboration with UQ is just the beginning, as QFI is already in discussions with other educational institutions to expand its learning initiatives, signalling a broader commitment to contributing to Queensland's growth not just in theory but in practice.
As the Executive Public Sector-Industry Program begins its journey, it stands as a model of what can be achieved when thought leadership translates into actionable initiatives, designed to drive the future growth of Queensland.
