Queensland's Energy Transition

Queensland sits at the centre of Australia’s energy transition, with decisions about investment, reliability and affordability set to have implications across the economy.

That was the central discussion at the Queensland Futures Institute Energy Transition forum where industry leaders examined the investment, infrastructure and policy decisions shaping the state’s energy future.

Three key issues emerged:

  • Reliability and affordability: balancing existing generation with renewables, storage and other dispatchable energy sources.

  • Investment and infrastructure: providing the certainty needed to fund new generation, storage and transmission projects, with long lead times adding urgency to decisions.

  • Energy access and inequality: ensuring the transition supports households and industry while addressing the affordability impacts of rising demand, including from energy-intensive data centres.
