AI is changing more than the technology sector. It is reshaping the infrastructure, energy, resources and capabilities needed to support Queensland’s next phase of growth.
QFI's final State Councillors briefing of the year featured insights from Crystal Russell, Head of Asia Pacific, Private Equity, QIC, and Nicholas Guest, Partner, Private Equity, QIC exploring the investment opportunities emerging from this shift.
A few themes stood out:
-
The next investment cycle is moving beyond software. Power, compute, data centres, energy networks, critical minerals, defence, space and advanced manufacturing are becoming increasingly important parts of the technology value chain.
-
Queensland has some of the ingredients to capture this opportunity. Access to land and energy, research capability, talent and established industries create a strong foundation for investment in emerging technologies and physical infrastructure.
-
The investment window is not unlimited. The speed of AI infrastructure development is creating significant demand for power, compute and supporting infrastructure, making timely project delivery and access to capital increasingly important.
-
AI is creating opportunities across traditional industries. Healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing and other sectors are already seeing applications that can improve productivity, while new technologies such as robotics, quantum computing and autonomous systems create further opportunities.
Thank you to our Corporate Partner and generous host Gadens for enabling QFI to convene these conversations across business, government, academia and community.
